Baseball Splits on Sunday, Takes 3 of 4 From Rochester

Adrian, Mich.- The Siena Heights baseball team split a double header with Rochester College in Adrian on Sunday.  The 4-1 loss and the 12-1 win, combined with Saturday's sweep, gives the Saints a series victory over the Warriors.

The story of the first game Sunday was just the lack of a timely hit for the Saints.  After the Warriors jumped out to a two run lead in the first inning, the Saints had their chances but did not score.  The Warriors scored one more run in the third inning, chasing Saints starting pitcher, Brent Vaccaro from the game.  Rochester then added another run in the fourth inning to stake a 4-0 lead.

The Saints managed to plate Dan Muller on a Dennis Sharp single in the bottom of the seventh inning.  That was all the damage the Saints could manage as they fell 4-1.

Muller led the Saints with three hits, a double and a run scored.  Vaccaro took the loss striking out four batters, while Jordan Basinger pitched four innings in relief.  Basinger allowed only three hits, one walk while striking out a pair.

The second game was a completely different story for the Saints.  The bats rattled off 12 hits and they scored just as many runs.  SHU scored only once in the first then they blew the game open with seven runs in the second and four more in the third.

Mike Lollo went 3-4 with three RBI.  Muller, Dennis Sharp, Joe Williams, and Zack Dunlop each drove in a pair of runners in the victory.

After a slow start, Wes Sorenson settled down and was almost lights out for seven complete innings on the mound.  He allowed just three hits, no earned runs, one walk while striking out seven Warriors.

The Saints push thier record to 12-11 overall.  They will return to action on Wednesday when they host Adrian College.
