LAKE WALES, Fla., and AVON PARK, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team defeated Bethel (Ind.), 9-1, and lost to Saint Francis (Ill.), 6-2, at the Warner Invitational on Friday.
Against Bethel, Joe Williams batted 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs while Dan Muller went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead a Siena Heights offense that doubled seven times.
Mike Lollo added a 2-for-2 game with three runs scored, Drew Milligan (double) went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, and Alec Duncan (double) had a 2-for-2 game with one RBI. Dennis Sharp Jr. also doubled.
Muller had an RBI double in the SHU first and the Saints led the rest of the way after that.
Austin Hauck smacked an RBI single in the Saints' two-run third.
Siena Heights tacked on five runs in the fifth, getting a sacrifice fly from Curtis and RBI doubles from Sharp, Milligan, Duncan and Muller.
Thomas McCarter pitched all seven innings to earn the win. He allowed one run on five hits while recording two strikeouts and one walk.
In the loss to Saint Francis, Lollo batted 2-for-4 for a Saint offense that accumulated seven hits.
Trailing 4-0, the Saints scored their only two runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Curtis and Sharp.
Pitcher Jordan Basinger suffered the loss on the hill. Reliever Tayler Thelen tossed three solid innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits.
Siena Heights (5-4) will return to action on Saturday in the Warner Invite with contests against host Warner (Fla.) and Bellevue (Neb.).
