Alexander, Kuebler Blank Rochester as SHU Baseball Opens New Field with Win

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights pitchers Corey Alexander (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) and Brett Kuebler (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) combined for a six-hit shutout as the Saints' baseball team won its first-ever game at the Siena Heights Baseball Field, 3-0, over Rochester on Monday.

Josh White (Brooklyn, Mich./Columbia Central) led the Saints at the plate, enjoying a 3-for-3 day with a run, RBI and stolen base. Corey Caldwell (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln Consolidated) recorded his first collegiate hits, going 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.

Dan Abbott (Plymouth, Mich./Lutheran Westland) also doubled for the Saints.

On the hill, Alexander started and worked five innings. While allowing four hits, he recorded three strikeouts and one walk to earn the win.

Kuebler took over pitching duties in the sixth and ended up making the save. He gave up two hits, struck out one batter and hit another.

Siena Heights took the lead with one run in the third inning and then added a pair of insurance scores during the fourth.

In the third, Caldwell smacked a leadoff double to left-center field and scored on a single up the middle by Mike Lollo(Allen Park, Mich./Cabrini).

Abbott set the table for SHU in the fourth, delivering a leadoff double of his own to left-center. His pinch-runner, Eric Henderson (Howell, Mich./Howell), scored on a single by White, who was eventually plated by a single from Marcus Stewart (Clinton, Mich./Clinton).

Warrior pitcher Johnny Barreto was credited with the loss. He pitched three innings, allowing one run on three hits while finishing with three strikeouts and one walk.

Ryan Chipka led the Rochester offense, batting 2-for-3. David Woodson and Spenser McKee added doubles.

The Saints (1-0) will be in action again on Wednesday when Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Davenport visits for a 2 p.m. start. The game will be a non-conference contest.
