ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team claimed a pair of victories in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Sunday, taking 10-0 and 5-1 decisions against Concordia.
In the first game, SHU pitcher Brett Kuebler (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) fired a five-hit shutout, finishing with two strikeouts and one walk.
Brett Howard (Sylvania, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales) and Todd Vandercook (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) led the Saints' offense with 3-for-4 games. Howard had two doubles and two RBIs while Vandercook added a double and three runs.
Kyle Benschoter (Hudson, Mich./Hudson), Dan Abbott (Plymouth, Mich./Lutheran Westland) and Marcus Stewart(Clinton, Mich./Clinton) went 2-for-4 with Benschoter driving in two runs and Stewart finishing with two triples and two RBIs. Josh White (Brooklyn, Mich./Columbia Central) added a double.
The Saints built a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and fifth innings before pushing six runs across during the sixth.
In the second, Vandercook doubled and then scored on a Stewart triple. Mike Lollo (Allen Park, Mich./Cabrini) singled and scored via error in the fifth.
A single by Robbie Schwartz (Adrian, Mich./Adrian) triggered the sixth-inning outburst. Stewart folllowed with an RBI triple before Lollo was hit by a pitch. Then, Benschoter had an RBI single, Howard smacked an RBI double, Abbott had an RBI single and White ripped a two-run double.
Siena Heights ended the game with a two-run seventh. Vandercook singled and Stewart reached on an error, setting the stage for an RBI single by Benschoter and RBI double from Howard.
Concordia's Tyler Holloway was the losing pitcher. He worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on nine hits while finishing with two strikeouts, three walks and one hit batsman.
In the nightcap, Cory Lehman (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) fueled the Siena Heights offense, batting 4-for-4 with a triple, double and four runs scored.
Stewart, White and Corey Caldwell (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln Consolidated) added 2-for-3 games while Caldwell collected three RBIs.
Winning pitcher Matt King (Rockville, Ind./Rockville) threw six innings of six-hit shutout baseball, finishing with one walk and one strikeout.
