FROSTPROOF, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a pair of contests on Thursday, defeating Thomas (Ga.), 4-1, before falling to Warner (Fla.), 10-2, at the Warner Invitational.
In the win over Thomas, Nathan Wilkerson was the winning pitcher, working 6 2/3 innings and allowing one run on five hits. He recorded one strikeouts and four walks before Jake Kret induced the game's final out to earn the save.
Down 1-0, the Saints (8-4) struck for a run in the third inning with Brett Howard's RBI single. Todd Vandercook, who reached base with a walk, scored the run.
In the fourth, SHU took the lead for good on an RBI single by Mike Lollo. Chaz Poindexter scored after reaching base with a single.
Josh White helped Siena Heights pick up a pair of insurance runs in the fifth, delivering a two-run triple to plate Howard and Dan Abbott, who led off the frame with back-to-back walks.
Lollo was the team's leading hitter, going 2-for-3.
Thomas scored its lone run in the first inning. Chris Cravotta, who went 2-for-4, doubled in Joey Kampfer, who reached with a double.
Mike Lane also doubled in support of losing pitcher Neal Hunter.
The nightcap did not go as well for the Saints as their pitching staff surrendered 12 walks and five home runs.
Herb Sickler led the host Royals, batting 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs. Dylan Gross, Adrian Kaplan and Ryan Thorlton also homered while Joey Hall pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and one walk.
Howard, White and Robbie Schwartz had doubles for SHU and Cory Lehman went 2-for-2 and scored a run. Tayler Thelen was the losing pitcher.
Siena Heights evened the contest at 1-all in the first inning when Howard plated Lehman with a double.
In the sixth, White was hit by a pitch and Schwartz doubled before Kyle Benschoter plated White with an RBI groundout for the Saints' second run.
SHU will be in action again on Friday with a 2 p.m. contest against Bellevue (Neb.) and an 8 p.m. matchup with Purdue North Central (Ind.).
