Lehman, King Guide Saints' Baseball Past Husson

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Cory Lehman batted 4-for-6 and pitcher Matt King allowed only one run in six innings of work as the Siena Heights baseball team defeated Husson, 12-1, in non-conference play at Chain of Lakes Park on Monday.

Lehman had a double, scored twice and drove in a run to lead the Saints.

Meanwhile, King gave up three hits while finishing with six strikeouts and three walks before relievers Tayler Thelen and Nathan Wilkerson combined for three shutout innings.

Brett Howard added a 2-for-6 game with two RBI and Alex Duncan added three RBI.

Also, Todd Vandercook contributed a double, two runs and two RBI, Josh White finished with a double and two RBI and Mike Lollo doubled and scored three runs.

The Saints (5-3) jumped ahead with three runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Lollo reached on an error, Vandercook walked and Lehman singled before Husson recorded an out on a Howard groundout, which scored Lollo. Later, Duncan plated Lehman and Vandercook with a 1-out double.

Leading 3-1, SHU tacked on three more runs in the fifth -- highlighted by a two-run double from White. Lehman led off the frame with a double and moved to third on a Howard flyout. Then, Abbott was hit by a pitch and Duncan reached on an error to score Lehman before White's hit.

Lehman provided an RBI single in Siena Heights' 1-run sixth. He plated Lollo, who doubled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Vandercook.

The Saints scored three and two runs in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.

During the seventh, Chaz Poindexter worked a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice by Kyle Johnson. After Lollo was hit with a pitch, Vandercook smashed a two-run double and then scored on a two-out single by Howard.

In the seventh, the Saints scored their runs on a Husson error. Bryan Mullen walked to lead off the frame and then Johnson and Kyle Benschoter drew two-out walks. Vandercook then hit a grounder, which should have been an inning-ending out, but the ball was misplayed, allowing Johnson and Mullen to score.

On the hill, Thelen worked two innings, finishing with out strikeout. Wilkerson threw one hitless frame.

Husson scored its lone run in the third when Jake Arthers plated Brandon Gendreau with a sac fly.

Shawn Smith added a triple for the Eagles and Dylan Foster doubled.

Joe Stanevicz was the losing pitcher. He tossed 4 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits. He recorded two strikeouts and three walks.

The Saints will be back in action on Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader against Calumet Saint Joseph (Ind.).
