The following was written on the 2016-17 Women's Basketball Team's Hall of Fame Plaque:
The 2016–17 Women’s Basketball Team earned their fourth NAIA National Tournament berth in five years. They qualified for the field as the WHAC Tournament runner-up following a third-place finish in the regular season standings.
The Saints finished the season with an overall record of 24–10, averaging 72.6 points per game while allowing 63.7 points per game.
April Watson was named a First Team NAIA All-American, becoming one of the most dominant players in program history. She also earned WHAC Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-WHAC and WHAC All-Defensive Team honors. Jaaliyah Arrington was named Second Team All-WHAC, and Demi Russell was selected to the WHAC All-Freshman Team.
The roster featured two SHU Hall of Famers — April Watson and Demi Russell — and the team was led by Hall of Fame head coach Sue Syljebeck alongside Hall of Fame standout Grace Howrigon.
