Saints Look to Go 2-0 When They Host Trine on Sunday

Upcoming for Saints Women's Basketball: The Saints will look to start the year 2-0 when they host NCAA DIII opponent Trine University on Sunday, November 8.

Head Coach: In her 16 seasons as head coach, Sue Syljebeck has 299 wins with the Saints, she ranks first in all-time wins for the program's history. Syljebeck reached her 200th win in the 2015-16 season.
Hitting 300: Sue Syljebeck will reach the 300-win milestone with her next victory this season.
At Home: The Saints are 17-2 at home dating back to last season. During that stretch, Siena Heights has outscored opponents by an average of 81.1 - 59.8.
Last Time Out: Peyton Banks scored 28 points and hauled in nine rebounds to lead the Saints to a 99-64 win over Grace Christian on Monday, November 2. The win pushed the Siena Heights to a 1-0 record.
SHU was 35-78 (44.9%) from the floor and outrebounded the Tigers 59-31. The Saints also capitalized on fast break opportunities netting 22 points in transition.
Scouting the Thunder: Trine is led by Tara Bieniewicz who was the Thunder's leading scorer last season with 11.9 points per game. Kayla Wildman and Kelsy Taylor also return to the team in 2020. Wildman averaged 9.7 points per game and Taylor totaled 8.3. Trine also returns its leading rebounder from a year ago in Shay Herbert (5.7 RPG). Taylor was second on the team with 5.6 RPG.
Trine faces off against fellow Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) member Lawrence Tech on Saturday, November 7 before the team heads to Adrian for the matchup with Siena Heights. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 3:00 p.m. and will be the season opener for the Thunder.
Returning Award Winners for the Saints: Peyton Banks was named the WHAC player of the year along with an All-WHAC 1st-Team selection. Kelsey Wyman was named to the 2nd-Team All-WHAC.  
Top returning players for Siena Heights: Banks was the team's leading scorer (15.8 PPG), rebounder (8.3 RPG), three-point (45.3%), and free throw (92.8%) shooter. 
Wyman was third on the team in points per game with 11.8. She also averaged 3.3 rebounds per game, the second-most among returning SHU players. 
In total, the Saints return 10 players who were in the program last year to the varsity roster. Those student-athletes are joined by six newcomers who round out the 16-member varsity roster.
