Senior Bianca Negron (Adrian, Mich.) and junior Carrigan Gray (Bowling Green, Ohio) were each honored with Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) weekly awards as announced by the league office. Negron was named the WHAC defender of the week while teammate Gray was named the conference setter of the week.
Negron led the Saint defense with 52 digs in four matches. Her digs/set total of 4.33 was a big reason that the team began the season with a 3-1 mark. Her performance in the SHU Invitational held over the weekend was good enough for her to be named to the all-tournament team.
Gray paced the SHU attack with 145 assists in the team's open five matches. 109 of those assists came during the two-day SHU Invitational Tournament held on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in which the Saints went 3-1.
This is the first WHAC conference weekly honor for the women's volleyball program this season. Both Negron and Gray receive their first career league weekly award.
