Women's Track and Field Take Third At Al Owens Classic

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's track and field team competed in the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State over the weekend. SHU finished third overall and had five automatic-qualifying and one provisional qualifying performance.

Asia Gardner led the team with two top three finishes. Gardner took second place in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. Finishing with an automatic-qualifying time of 11.97 seconds and a provisional-qualifying time of 24.90 seconds, respectively.

Alexis Moore came out of the 400 meter dash with an automatic-qualifying time of 56.05 seconds, grabbing second place.

The SHU 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Mildrenae Young-Brooks, Emily Hill, Moore and Gardner placed second. The women had an automatic-qualifying time of 47.75 seconds, only one second behind the first place GVSU team.

Placing third was the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Mariah Ridal, Charlena Williams, Brianna Pekel and Moore. The women finished with a time of 4:00.22.

Marissa Johnson came out on top claiming first in the high jump, where she had an automatic-qualifying jump of 1.72m.

Tasha Mckinley took second place in the pole vault with an automatic-qualifying clear of 3.76m.

Claiming third place in the javelin throw was Tina Miller with a distance of 36.35m.

As a team the Saints took third place with 95.75 points, taking first was GVSU with 194.50 points.

Next up the Saints will travel to Hillsdale to compete in the Hillsdale Gina Relays on Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29.
