In the 2017 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Preseason Coaches Poll, the Siena Heights women's soccer team is slated in second behind the 2016 NAIA National Champions Northwestern Ohio. The Saints ended their 2016 season with a 12-6-2 overall record and a 7-3 conference record, including a trip to the WHAC Conference Tournament Semifinal.
UNOH is picked to repeat as the WHAC regular-season champion after capping off a magical season in 2016 as NAIA National Champions. The Racers received all 12 first-place votes after winning the last three WHAC titles (2014, 2015, 2016). Siena Heights holds the most conference titles with nine (1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2009, 2010) and sits in second with 133 points. Aquinas received 115 points for third and claimed championships in 1996 and 2011.
The conference features two new teams this season. Rochester joins the race after becoming a full member of the WHAC on July 1 and UM-Dearborn is embarking on its inaugural women's soccer season. The preseason poll was conducted using ballots from each of the head coaches in the league.
