The Siena Heights women's golf team were chosen to finish third in the 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Preseason Coaches Poll that was released by the league office on Monday. The Saints finished fourth at the WHAC Championships in the spring with a team 995 (336+336+323).
The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank the teams in the league from 1-12. 12 points are given to the team at the top of the list, 11 points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.
UNOH claimed the top spot on the poll by receiving seven of the 12 first-place votes to finish with 139 points. Defending champion Indiana Tech finished with the other five first-place votes and 136 points for the second spot in the poll. Siena Heights was third with 109 points. Aquinas (98 pts.) edged Lawrence Tech (94) for fourth. Madonna received 89 points to claim sixth place. Cleary (63) and Cornerstone (55) finished eighth and ninth respectively. Rochester finished with 28 points to hold at 10 while Concordia (Mich.) claimed the 11th-spot with 26. Newest WHAC addition, UM-Dearborn, rounded out the poll with 22 points for 12th.
The Saints open the season on Friday, August 30 at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. That tournament is being held at the Arbor Trace Golf Course in Marion, Indiana. The first round is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. while day two (Aug. 31) will begin at 9:00 a.m.
