Siena Heights junior Peyton Banks (Wadsworth, Ohio) was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) women's basketball player of the week by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Banks scored a career-high 35 points in just 20 minutes of play in a blowout win over Bethel (Ind.) on Saturday. She finished 12-15 from the floor, 3-3 from three, and 8-8 from the free-throw line--making her start the season with a perfect 20-20 mark from the charity stripe. She also dished four assists and hauled in three rebounds during her time on the floor.
"Peyton understands her role coming into this year with losing our three seniors," said head coach Sue Syljebeck. "She has not only stepped up her game on the floor but as a leader as well."
This is the sixth WHAC women's basketball player of the week award of Peyton's career. She earned four awards last season on her way to being named the WHAC Player of the Year.
Banks will lead the Saints against cross-town rival Adrian College on Tuesday, November 24 at 6:00 p.m. EST.
