Siena Heights senior Ashley Helmink was tabbed the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) softball player of the week as announced by the league office.
The second baseman from North Ridgeville, Ohio had a monster week with 18 hits in eight games. She had multiple hits in five of the eight games on her way to extend her current hitting streak to 24 games. She totaled 14 RBIs on the week and hit three home runs.
She also broke two single-season school records. The first was for triples with eight and the other for runs with 51. Her performance this week also has her sitting with the second-best season for doubles with 17 (she is only five doubles away from tying for the top spot in that category). She is fourth with eight home runs this season, three away from the record, and fifth in RBIs with 43 (the record is 59).
This is the third time in her career that she has received a weekly conference award. All three of those awards have been earned this season.
Helmink will lead the Saints in a WHAC doubleheader at Lourdes this Wednesday, April 10 beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
