Siena Heights softball senior, Kelsey Cherry and junior, Ashley Helmink were named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District team, as announced by the organization on Thursday. The Saints finished with a 21-13 overall record and a 13-7 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference record.
Kelsey Cherry, the outfielder is a nursing major with a 3.86 GPA. She finished third on the team with 37 hits in 107 at bats for a batting average of .346. Cherry also tacked on 22 RBI's, including two home runs on the season.
Infielder, Ashley Helmink spent her time at SHU as a psychology major and holds a 3.95 GPA. She led the Saints with 45 hits in 127 at bats, giving her a batting average of .363. Helmink finished second on the team with 24 RBI's, home runs with six and with 20 extra base hits. She finished the season with a .911 fielding percetage.
In order to be eligible for this award, the student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status, and compete in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. This award recognizes student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and academically.
