SHU Men's XC Takes Third at WHACs; Parlette, Smith Among Honorees

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Samuel Parlette placed 11th and Brett Smith ran to 12th to lead the Siena Heights men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships at Riverside Park on Saturday.

Parlette clocked in at 26:17 and Smith finished in 26:23; both earned All-WHAC honorable mentions while Parlette was named WHAC Newcomer of the Year.

Also for the Saints, Justin Bateson took 15th in 26:28 and Mark Haukereid was 16th in 26:31. Rounding out the scoring, Parker Saenz finished 41st in 28:19. Bateson was named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team.

As a team, Siena Heights scored 84 points while team champ Aquinas had 25 and runner-up Indiana Tech finished with 55. Cornerstone was fourth with 127, followed by Davenport (133), Madonna (186), Michigan-Dearborn (192), Lawrence Tech (216), Concordia (232), and Lourdes (298).

The Saints will now await official word from the NAIA on who will receive bids to the National Championships.
