GREENWOOD, Ind. - Sophomore Evan Cashen (St. Joseph, Mich.) of the Siena Heights men's volleyball team has garnered College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® honors, the organization announced on Thursday (May 21).
The 2019-20 Academic All-District® At-Large Team, selected by the CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in their sport and in the classroom.
Cashen was named to the District 1 Team which encompasses schools from Michigan along with 21 other states. Cashen is one of two men's volleyball players on the team along with student-athletes representing the sports of tennis, golf, wrestling, swimming, and lacrosse. Earning a 4.00 grade point average during the 2020 spring semester as an accounting major, he is the first member of the Siena Heights men's volleyball team to earn Academic All-District honors since the start of the program in 2010.
Cashen finished the season with the second-most total attempts on the team with 590, third-most kills (199), third-most digs (181), fourth-most assists (19), and fourth-most points (225). He holds spots in the SHU career records list being ninth all-time in kills per set (2.16), ninth all-time in digs per set (1.97), sixth all-time in serve percentage (.921), tenth all-time in reception percentage (.948), and tenth all-time in points per set (2.45).
"I'm excited for Evan to receive this honor", said head coach Kim Berrington. "He is the true student-athlete. He works extremely hard in practice as well as the classroom. His efforts pay off for him in matches and achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average."
Honorees selected to the Academic All-District® Team will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-19.
