The Siena Heights football team was chosen to finish fourth in the Mid-States Football League (MSFA) Mid-East League (MEL) Preseason Poll that was released on Thursday afternoon. The Saints finished the 2018 regular season with a 3-3 league mark for fourth in the standings as well as a place in the top-25 rankings in the 25th spot.
Defending MEL champion Marian (Ind.) received four first-place votes to top the poll with 34 points. Saint Francis (Ind.) earned the other three first-place votes to finish with 34 points to claim the second spot. Concordia (Mich.) tallied 26 points to take the third spot. SHU was four points behind the Cardinals for fourth. Taylor fell fifth with 14 points, one point more than sixth-place Indiana Wesleyan. Lawrence Tech rounded out the MEL poll with six points. The Blue Devils will make their debut in the MSFA this season.
Siena Heights opens the 2019 campaign at home on September 7 against Olivet Nazarene at 12:00 p.m. The Tigers received one first-place vote on the way to 30 points for second-place in the Mid-West League.
